By Shawn Wilson This is one of the largest trade shows in North America and it's not even open to the public. What is truly amazing about this show is that each year major manufacturers are required to have some big product that they unveil for this show or their year can be dramatically effected in the sales department. It really is amazing how powerful one trade show can be and how each year it impacts our lives.
For many of the past years Apple has been the company that has taken most of the thunder from the show. Introducing the iPod originally and then the iPod Nano and of course the iPhone and the Mac Book Air. This year's show has been somewhat overshadowed by Steve Jobs health, Steve is normally the guy that represents Apple and does the keynote speech which includes introducing the new product. Recently because of his health Apple shares have dropped dramatically and has forced him to release a statement to the media, apparently Steve is doing ok as far as his previous issues with pancreatic cancer were concerned and is suffering now from a hormone issue that has caused significant weight loss. All the best to you Steve for a full recovery! So who will be the star of this year's CES conference and what will the product be? TV's are always getting better and thinner in size and that might be some big news? What about a laptop with a larger flash hard drive? Apple, RIM and Samsung have all recently released new versions of smartphones so I can't see there being a big announcement regarding cell phones this year. I personally don't know how you can make MP3's much better aside from maybe lowering the price! I guess the big question is what does the world need or more importantly what cool gadget and brilliant marketing plan will make us think we need it? There is of course the economy to think about so pricing for these new innovations will have to come in at value based pricing in order to compete. Although I like many of you I am getting really sick of talking about the economy and am really quite ready to start talking about something else this will however be on the mind of many consumers. I personally want to see less fluff and more substance from the products released this year. I don't really care if a TV is super thin does it have an amazing picture and please tell me that it's not going to be $10,000. It will also be quite refreshing to know that the HD DVD battle is over, we can all argue about what they really won, I personally am looking forward to more options being available for streaming hi def movies to a hard drive in my house? One thing is for sure this show will be the benchmark for the new products that are launched this year, so if you are a tech gadget geek like myself you will be anxiously anticipating what goes on.
